Channel Tunnel Group Ltd v Balfour Beatty Construction Ltd
[1993] AC 334; [1993] 2 WLR 262; [1993] 1 All ER 664 (HL)
Key Principle
Where parties have agreed to resolve disputes by an agreed contractual procedure culminating in arbitration, the court will hold them to that bargain and stay court proceedings; and the court has power (under s.37 Supreme Court Act 1981 and its inherent jurisdiction) to grant interim relief in support of the arbitral process, though it will exercise restraint where doing so would pre-empt the tribunal.
