Key Principle
Proof beyond reasonable doubt requires the court to be satisfied of each element to a high degree of probability such that any remaining doubt is unreasonable; a reasonable doubt is one for which a reason connected to (or to the absence of) the evidence can be given, and an appellate court is fully competent to draw its own inferences from the established facts.
