Key Principle

A defendant who negligently supplies information for the purpose of enabling another to decide on a course of action is liable only for the foreseeable consequences of the information being wrong, not for all losses flowing from that course of action; the recoverable loss is limited by the scope of the duty assumed (the SAAMCO principle).
