Bari v Rosen (t/a Ra Rosen and Co Solicitors)

[2012] EWHC 1782 (QB)
JurisdictionUnited Kingdom
CourtHigh Court of Justice (Queen's Bench Division), Senior Courts Costs Office (Spencer J)
Year2012
StatusPersuasive authority

Key Principle

A solicitor may only render an interim statute bill if the retainer expressly confers a contractual right to do so; absent such a right, a series of bills is treated as a single (Chamberlain) bill delivered at the date of the last in the series, and ambiguity in the retainer on this fundamental point is resolved against the solicitor.
