Key Principle
A publisher may defeat a libel claim under the public interest defence in s.4 of the Defamation Act 2013 where the statement was on a matter of public interest and the defendant reasonably believed that publishing it was in the public interest, the court making such allowance for editorial judgment as it considers appropriate.
