In assessing competing expert evidence in a clinical negligence claim the court's primary task is to evaluate the internal logic and cogency of each expert's opinion against the contemporaneous clinical records, guidelines and the evidence as a whole, looking past stylistic blemishes to the substance, and applying the Bolam/Bolitho standard so that a defensible body of opinion will only be rejected where it cannot be logically supported at all.
