Klein v. Martin

Under AEDPA (28 U.S.C. Section 2254(d)), a federal habeas court must defer to a state court's merits decision unless it was contrary to, or involved an unreasonable application of, clearly established federal law as determined by the Supreme Court, and a court of appeals errs by granting relief on reasoning that departs from that deferential standard.
