Key Principle

Where the language of a contract or lease contains an obvious drafting error, the court may correct that error as a matter of construction (supplying or transposing words) provided it is clear both that a mistake was made and what the parties objectively intended, rectification and construction being aspects of the single task of interpreting the agreement in its context.
