To establish the tort of deceit a claimant must prove a false representation made knowingly or recklessly with intent that it be relied upon and which the claimant actually and (on the authorities) reasonably relied upon to its detriment; absent proof of such reliance and inducement, a deceit claim fails even where misrepresentations are made.
