Turner v Palomo

[2000] 1 WLR 37
JurisdictionUnited Kingdom
CourtCourt of Appeal (Civil Division)
Year1999
StatusBinding authority

Key Principle

The statutory taxation regime under the Solicitors Act 1974 does not exclude a client's general common-law right to challenge the reasonableness of a solicitor's bill; even after the statutory time limit for taxation has expired the client may dispute reasonableness, and the burden of proving the charges reasonable rests on the solicitor.
