A non-parent who has voluntarily accepted a child as a member of the family may be ordered under s 70 of the Women's Charter to maintain that child where the natural/adoptive parents have failed to do so, and matrimonial assets are generally valued as at the date of the ancillary hearing subject to departure where warranted on the facts.
